I made my best-ever loaves today and I think they smell incredible. There’s butter on the crust 😋

I have never heard of anyone feeling that way before. He says it always smells and tastes sour ☹️

    This makes me unreasonably bummed.

  2. I’ll allow not liking bread in terms of eating it, but the smell of bread baking is one of the most wonderful things on this planet. Your husband might be a serial killer. Sleep with one eye open at least.

If your husband doesn’t like your bread I’d just throw it out and try again. There’s always other men out there.

He might be a “super taster” Google it

I remember reading an article of a study conducted in America where the participants did a blind taste test of tomato sauces. The majority of them preferred the lower-value processed sauce to those with fresh ingredients because that’s what their tastebuds were used to. Don’t quote me here, I read it a while ago.

Maybe your partner is similarly afflicted? That perhaps they’re so used to cheap, processed crap that they prefer it over the proper stuff?

Definitely grounds for immediate divorce. Bread looks great btw.

I would actually be curious what exactly he dislikes in the smell. A friend of mine had a sister who couldn’t stand the smell of certain yeast. Both fresh and when used in baking. There are lots of different weird things how we human react on, it might be something to check it out. Then you can experiment with something else instead.

    Huh.

What doesn’t he like about the smell?

That’s unfortunate and I’d gobble that all up.

I love the smell of fresh bread and sometimes intentionally go down the bread aisle of a store to smell the smells. Lol

More delicious smells for you then!

I know Reddit has a reputation for jumping to the “Divorce!” suggestion, but here it may be justified. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|joy)

Those are two nice loaves! I’m sure many other men would love them!

In most states, you can get an immediate and unconditional annulment of your marriage by simply informing the county clerk of the fact that your spouse doesn’t like the smell or taste of fresh bread. In fact, the police should investigate if he’s even human. Perhaps he’s an Alien.

  15. Geomattics

Make it. Put it in a Wonder bag. Profit.

OP, send your address. I’ll be around shortly, your husband will be dealt with. And I’m moving in. Haha 😜 Happiest 2025 to you both.

Check again your yeast to flour ratio or if your bread is overproofed , if it is it’ll smell yeasty and sour so it’s probably that yeasty smell that your partner dislikes. If not, just make enough for 1 person 🙂

Sounds like you might be married to an alien invader?

Ok hear me out–I didn’t like potatoes much growing up and I was later diagnosed with a mild allergy. So mild I never noticed it until I was doing a scratch panel for everything under the sun. Maybe he’s mildly allergic to the point where he wouldn’t notice a reaction, but it manifests as him not liking it.

If that’s not it he’s crazy, I’ve never seen anyone not like at least the smell 😂

IF you don’t like the smell of homemade bread, you need to reevaluate your life choices

  21. SlickDillywick

I have a similar issue with my wife. She likes the smell, but she only likes specific kinds of bread. I knew she was fucking weird when I married her lol so that’s on me I guess

  22. JoyousGamer

I mean it is very different. Have you tried making other bread instead of this sandwich loaf?

  23. notguiltybrewing

Some people don’t like the smell of yeast. Most likely the culprit.

I wonder when the follow up post is coming. “I found out my spouse is a serial killer after finding out they didn’t like the smell of fresh baked bread AMA”

  25. they say Ozempic and similar treatments are amazing at resetting the Western palate which has been wrecked by ultra-processed food!

You should look at alternative options.
    Alternative options of men 😌

Covid changed people’s smells and taste senses. Some got better after a year, some still haven’t.

I follow a writer who started being nauseated to the point of vomiting (iirc) by the smell of coffee. …. their day job was being a barista.
